Tourist Attractions

Windsor Castle
Windsor Castle is one of the Queen's three official residences and has been home to the sovereign for over 900 years. It is the largest inhabited castle in the world and the oldest in continuous occupation. A visit to the castle includes the State Apartments, Queen Mary's Dolls House, St George's Chapel and the Albert Memorial Chapel. The restoration work since the fire of 1992 is something not to be missed, and from October to March the Semi-State Rooms are open in addition to the State Apartments, adding even more to your visit.

Eton College
Henry VI founded Eton College in 1440. Its true name is The King's College of Our Lady Beside Windsor. It was built to provide accommodation for 70 poor scholars, who would then go on to further their education at King's College, Cambridge. Today Eton is one of England's most exclusive schools, and you can take a guided tour between Easter and October.

Legoland
At Legoland Windsor the entertainment is certainly hands-on. With over 50 interactive rides, live shows, building workshops and attractions, and set in 150 acres of beautiful parkland, Legoland Windsor is a different sort of family theme park.

Ascot and Windsor Racecourses
Equestrian events are a quintessential part of Royal Borough life, and during the summer the royal racecourses host evening race meetings. Whether or not you are a serious racegoer, you will love the excitement, the chance of a flutter and maybe a glass of champagne or two.

Cliveden House and Grounds
Cliveden is set amid 376 acres of magnificent formal gardens and parklands. Standing on chalk cliffs that give the estate its name, the house commands panoramic views over the beautiful Berkshire countryside and an idyllic bend in the River Thames. The 2nd Duke of Buckingham built the first house in 1666. A notorious rake, schemer and wit, he created Cliveden as a hunting lodge where he could entertain his friends and mistress. Since then it has twice been destroyed by fire, only to emerge, phoenix-like, more stunning than before. The house has played host to virtually every British monarch since George I and has been home to three dukes, an earl and Frederick, Prince of Wales.

Henley Royal Regatta
Henley Regatta was first held in 1839 and has been held annually ever since, except during the two World Wars. Originally staged by the mayor and people of Henley as a public attraction, with a fair and other amusements, the emphasis rapidly changed so that competitive amateur rowing became its main purpose. Every year Henley is visited by many crews from abroad, and last year 110 crews were from overseas including Australia, Canada, USA, Germany, Poland, Croatia, Ukraine, Denmark and South Africa.

Guards Polo Club, Windsor Great Park
The Club was founded on 25th January 1955 with HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, as president. Originally named the Household Brigade Polo Club, the name was changed to its present form in 1969.

Since its inception the Club has grown considerably, and it is now the largest polo club in Europe in terms of membership and number of grounds. There are currently about 1000 non-playing members and about 160 playing members, among whom are some of the highest rated players in the world.

Savill Garden
Deep in Windsor Great Park, Sir Eric Savill created the Savill Garden, covering 35 acres, in 1932. He called it the 'Bog Garden', and today it is well established and considered to be the finest of its type in the world's northern temperate regions. The garden is open all year and provides an oasis of tranquillity where you can relax and unwind.

Thorpe Park
In 1971 Thorpe Park was born as a 500-acre water park. Thunder River and its surrounding area were developed in 1987, and 1988 saw the opening of the 630-seat Palladium Theatre. In 1989 Canada Creek, incorporating Logger's Leap, was developed. Since 1991 many other attractions have been added.

Norden Farm Centre for the Arts
Maidenhead's exceptional new venue for cultural activity. The Centre offers an exciting programme of dance, drama, music, film, literature and visual art from both professional touring companies and local arts groups.
